If you bought a leasehold flat with share of freehold as a sole owner and then got married, what is the process for adding your spouse to the freehold company and the lease? I am guessing it is a transfer of equity on the lease plus updating Companies House for the freehold share but not sure on the order or whether the other shareholders need to consent. Has anyone done this recently and roughly what did it cost in legal fees.
Its a transfer of equity on the lease and a share transfer on the freehold company. Any conveyancer will do both for about £500 plus the Land Registry fee. Not really a DIY job.
Thanks @rb471956, that is clear. One thing I am not sure about though. The freehold company articles might restrict share transfers, requiring consent from the other shareholders. If one of my neighbours is awkward about it, does that actually block the transfer or is adding a spouse treated differently under company law.
